President Obama designates Stonewall as first National Monument for LGBT rights


President Obama will designate the Stonewall Inn in New York City’s Greenwich Village as the first National Monument for LGBT rights this weekend on the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling to legalize gay marriage. The Stonewall Inn has long served as a landmark for the LGBT community, especially since 1969 when the Stonewall riots marked a major turning point in the fight for gay rights.
